Region
The Cote d?Azur is located in the far south-east corner of France, within the department of the Alpes-Maritimes. Even if your French is not as good as it used to be you will recognise in the name what the area signifies, at least geographically – the mountains and the sea.
It is a place of contrast. The topography of the land is a case in point, it seems to have been designed specifically to provide the opportunity for a huge number of sports and activities, from skiing or diving in the Mediterranean to skiing or climbing in the Alps. However, that same landscape gives us stunning views, dramatic coastlines and quiet beaches.
In the summer months you can find all the glitz and glamour the French Riviera is famous for, but the advantage of the region is that there are still so many places where the speed of life slows to a relaxed ?escargot? pace. It is this respect of tradition and culture that pervades the lifestyle and attitude here, it softens and deepens the landscapes made famous by artists such as Chagall, Monet and Renoir.
This summary doesn?t do it justice ? take a closer look for yourself by clicking through our links to the right. If you decide the Cote d’Azur is the place for you, go straight to the “Contact” button on the top menu and email us today!
Cannes
Cannes is just a twenty minute coast drive from Miramar le Parc
Every May, Cannes says ?I?m ready for my close up? and the world?s media zooms in on the International Film Festival. After Fifty years in film, Cannes has risen justifiably to be the ?Star? of the Riviera.
Glamour and sophistication with a distinctly French flair are paramount and the list of luxury hotels and Haute Couture stores reflect this. From the classic Chanel and Dior to the more modern Jean Paul Gaultier, it is a shoppers paradise and all are in easy walking distance on the Gray d’Albion arcade.
Take in the sea air as you stroll down the Croisette ? one of the world?s great seaside promenades where you can relax in a beachside caf? and be one of the beautiful people, admiring the yachts and lifestyles of the rich and famous.
Watch the sun set over the marina and prepare for a class of dining and energy of nightlife that is a unique experience.
History and romantic intrigue can never be far from any medieval French town and a short boat ride will take you to the historic Fort of St Marguerite, where a poor unknown noble prisoner was forced to wear an ?Iron Mask?.
Food and Wine
Named for being the first Roman province outside of Italy, the similarities between the two cultures are emphasised by the cuisine of Provence.
Food and wine are life
What was the first thing the Romans did when they arrived? They planted vineyards of course and the Bandol region has been growing fine wine for two and a half thousand years since.
Ch?teauneuf-du-Pape is probably the most famous red of the region but Provence is also famous for it?s ros?, a fruity fragrant wine from an area renowned for it?s Lavender production, perfect for those summer evenings.
The mountainous uplands gave rise to sheep and goat herding providing the best in meats and cheeses while like much of southern Europe, olives are a staple, healthy diet and part of everyday life. Olive oil provides the basis for much of the cooking in the region including the tapenades such as ?Pistou? and ?aioli?, so delicious with local breads and those cheeses.
Not wanting to be outdone, the Mediterranean provides a perfect contrast with succulent shell fish dishes and the archetypal Bouillabaisse which is equally well accompanied by the local Chardonnays.
It is worth visiting this area simply for the culinary experience, most of which will of course be al fresco!
Nice
Nice is just 35 minutes drive from Miramar le Parc
The city of Nice is the departement?s capital. It is a bustling city full of Italian flair and French panache. The Promenade des Anglais, the Chateau Hill, the port and many outstanding museums make it a ?must see? on any visit to the region.
Top of the list must be the Museum of Nice with it?s special exhibition of master works left by Matisse to the city as a thank you for the 36 years he lived there. The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art houses an astounding collection in iconographic architecture.
The Hotel Negresco, designated a National Historic Monument, is a local institution still favoured by the famous and worth a visit just for its art collection, liveried footmen and stained-glass cupola designed by Gustaf Eiffel.
The nightlife in Nice offers a suitably Cote d?Azur appeal of French decadence and fine dining. However, as the major city for the area there is entertainment to suit all tastes, from casinos and nightclubs to Salsa bands and Karaoke!
Nice is the major transportation hub for the region and, as such, your access to the French Riviera will more than likely be via the international airport Nice Cote d?Azur.
Nice is currently served by numerous national and low-cost airlines providing frequent services from London and other UK cities (Air France City Jet, British Airways, BMIBaby, EasyJet, FlyBe, Globespan and Jet2).
Nice is also accessible by high speed rail link on Eurostar from London (St Pancras, Ebbsfleet and Ashford) with a change in Paris ? journey time is around 9 hours.
Skiing
Only 90 minutes drive from the Mediterranean and you could be skiing!
Just a one and a half hour drive away and you could be skiing in the French Alps during the winter months. Despite the proximity to the Cote d?Azur the high altitudes and weather conditions can make skiing here possible between December and April.
The largest ski resorts in the region are:
Isola 2000 – this ski area is a treat for all adrenaline junkies, boasting a half pipe, snow park, obstacles and boardercross. 24 lifts serve 8 green, 19 blue, 17 red and 5 black runs. There is a 3km cross-country circuit and facilities for ice-driving, snow scooters, ice-skating, karting, snow-shoeing, helicopter drops, dog-sleigh rides and ice-driving. Pedestrians can simply take the P?levos cable car to an altitude of 2320m and enjoy a panoramic view of the resort.
Auron ? is a small, intimate village nestled in the heart of a top quality ski resort at 1600m offering 130km of pistes. 25 lifts serve 4 green, 13 blue, 14 red and 5 black runs. There is also a 4km cross-country circuit. Snow-shoeing, paraskiing, snow-scooters, dog-sleigh rides and ice-skating is also available.
St Tropez
St Tropez can be reached in approx 1 hour by car from Miramar le Parc
Not just a tanning product, although you will see many people sporting bronzed good looks. St Tropez is situated to the west of Miramar le Parc on the French Riviera, in the Var departement. It is a beautiful, fun and relaxing place where you can shop for designer goods, dine in style or simply lounge on the beach.
Set on the lovely blue water of the Bay of Saint-Tropez much of the lifestyle is based around this huge feature. Although it is a modern version of a medieval town, the maritime festival of exclusive yachts attracts many to the town, both on and off their own yachts. From the quay you can sit and watch the wealthy, the famous and the very beautiful people walking by ? yes, this is real life for some!
Brigitte Bardot may have moved on a while ago but St Tropez retains much of the sheen of it?s movie star past and clings to it particularly with it?s vibrant nightlife. More than the rest of the Riviera, St Tropez is about decadent fun, and being seen having that fun. Try the ?Caves du Roy? for a suitably pretentious night of watching suitably pretentious people.

This is a very large, attractive Proven?al villa of about 430 m?, built in 2006 and simply but immaculately decorated ? no work needs to be done. The entrance hall leads to an open plan kitchen with a well defined dining area and even a bar. The large and airy living room, opening directly on to the verandah, has masses of space for sitting and relaxing and a corner ideal for a pool table. Perhaps you’re a wine buff? The house has a large temperature-controlled wine cellar just right for the ‘96 Bordeaux or the cases of champagne. Upstairs five bedrooms and five bathrooms give plenty of space and privacy for family and guests and each bedroom opens on to a large terrace overlooking the pool. You can express your inner James Bond in the enormous garage with space for several cars, motorbikes or whatever gets you going. (over half an acre) and it is set within a smart, quiet residential area interspersed with the shady pines that give the town its name.
Apart from the urban charms of Cannes, the rest of the French Riviera is on your doorstep, made famous by Scott Fitzgerald in Tender is the Night and a playground for the rich and beautiful ever since. Juan-Les-Pins has a long sandy beach if you’d like a dip in the sea to make a change from lazing by the pool, and the town hosts a jazz festival in July. Going a few kilometres eastwards you come to Antibes, a big yachting centre and a charming town of cobbles and flower-decked houses, where Picasso spent a summer in 1946 in the Ch?teau Grimaldi, now the Mus?e Picasso.
Local shops are within a kilometre and Cannes itself is only 6km distant. As you would expect for almost anywhere on the French Riviera, the house is very well served for transport. The A8 autoroute is 7 km away, the local airport at Cannes 14 km and Nice C?te d’Azur International is at 18 km. Greener guests can arrive at Cannes by rail.
Each share will entitle the owner to stay 1 month at the property and is priced at ?583,000.
